Zano ZANO
Mature privacy L1 (since 2018) by the original CryptoNote author — private-by-default transactions, Confidential Assets, hybrid PoW (ProgPowZ) + PoS with hidden amounts, and a 100% fee burn.
About Zano
sources: official materials · verified 2026-10-13Zano is the oldest asset in the tracked set: live since December 2018, led by Andrey Sabelnikov — author of the original CryptoNote reference implementation (the codebase Monero forked) and of Boolberry. Every transaction is private by default: hidden amounts, addresses and asset types via d/v-CLSAG ring signatures (ring size 16), stealth addresses and Bulletproofs+. Consensus is hybrid — alternating PoW (ProgPowZ, GPU-only, ASIC-resistant) and PoS blocks under Zarcanum, the first proof-of-stake with hidden amounts; attacking the chain needs both hashpower and stake. Beyond payments: Confidential Assets (privacy tokens), Ionic Swaps (P2P atomic swaps inside wallets, powering the built-in DEX), aliases, auditable wallets, on-chain voting. Fixed 1 ZANO block reward with uncapped supply by design — and 100% of transaction fees are burned, so net supply can deflate when usage runs hot (CoinGecko circulating sits below the documented initial total). Audited by Cypher Stack; Zenith (2027) is the research-track overhaul.
How it works
- Network
- C++ from scratch on CryptoNote lineage; 8 active repos (zano, trade DEX, extension, native lib +android)

miner: wildrig-multi (--algo progpowz)- 1
--algo progpowz --server zano.luckypool.io --port 8866

Pitfalls we hit
- Quality signals: 8 years live, named CryptoNote-lineage lead dev, Cypher Stack audits, very active GitHub (8 repos pushed within 2 weeks of capture).

- Maximum supply
- Uncapped by design — fixed 1 ZANO reward forever; 100% of tx fees burned
- Emission

Premine 3.69M ZANO (~21% of initial supply; ~88% utilized, foundation fund ~2.9% of supply as of Jul 2026 with crowdfunding planned).
Privacy-regime risk is structural for the whole sector — delistings and exchange pressure hit privacy-first chains first.
Quality signals: 8 years live, named CryptoNote-lineage lead dev, Cypher Stack audits, very active GitHub (8 repos pushed within 2 weeks of capture).
Confidential Assets + bridge make the regulatory surface heavier than a plain privacy coin — turning BTC/ETH into asset-type-indistinguishable private tokens fronts AML rules directly; tier-1 exchange listings are structurally unlikely.
Key-person concentration: the core is ~3 people around Sabelnikov (vs 450+ contributors on Monero); the 2012 CryptoNote lineage is the asset and the bus-factor at once.
Full-PoS transition (15-20 s blocks, 100% fee burn) is announced but not verified on-chain — a consensus migration of that size is execution risk, not a detail.
